Crater Lake - Caywood's perspective
Crater Lake: first known as “the big deep.” Crater Lake National Park was our first stop in Oregon, one of the state I haven’t been to before. We got in after dinner and were able to snag a campground in Mazama Village. With 216 sites, this is by far the largest campground I’ve ever seen. We enjoyed a relaxing night of grilled cheeses, a warm campfire, and some nice company. When we woke up the next morning it was time to see Crater Lake. We did the Discovery Point Trail, which was a mile each way with the final destination being the point in which Crater Lake was first discovered. The reason we chose this one is because the hike is right along the rim of the lake. The lake is beautiful. I can’t describe how blue it is, and I’m not talking about just one shade of blue. In this one body of water you can easily see a minimum of five different shades of blue at any given angle. In the middle of Crater Lake is Wizard Island, which you can only go to if you purchase one of the volcano boat tours. We didn’t do this, but I think it would have been a good place to do so. We didn’t check on pricing so I’m not sure how much these boat tours cost or how long they are. The one thing I will say about Crater Lake is that the angles aren’t very different. What I mean by that, is that if you see the lake from here, then walk a mile to look at it again, the view is not that different. I think as long as you see it from one of the viewpoints, you’re probably good.

Crater Lake - Feliks' perspective
Apparently I did my research incorrectly about Crater Lake, because it was five times the size I imagined. Crater Lake sits on an inactive volcano, and has a circumference of about 26 miles. The drive to Crater Lake is just as awesome as the lake itself. Highway 62 leading up to Crater Lake would be a nice spot for an afternoon motorcycle ride. The roads were smooth and tight, but not very forgiving. We did a quick hike around the rim of the lake. And while I was excited to get down to the water, it is prohibited to hike below the rim. Even still, the view from the edge and the discovery point was spectacular.
