Her View

Omaha - Caywood's perspective

Omaha: home of the #1 zoo in the world, Henry Doorly Zoo. And its name is well deserved! I am not going to go on and on about a zoo, you all know what a zoo is. But seriously, this zoo was the best zoo I have ever been to. And I've been to a LOT of zoos. The exhibits were so unique, and extremely well-done. A wide variety of animals, most of the exhibits were great in size and the animals had lots of room to roam.

My favorite part, and the part that I had heard of ahead of time was the "underground caves." Nothing was clearly marked as the underground caves, but the last place we went in was the Desert Dome. This was home to the BEST exhibit I have ever seen at a zoo. About halfway through the dome you go underground, and the bats and caves begin. After that, you enter the swamp with crocodiles, alligators, beavers, frogs, turtles, and so much more. Easily one of the top spots on our trip so far. I don't care if there is literally onthing else to see in the state of Nebraska - Omaha is so worth the visit, just for this zoo.

His View

Omaha - Feliks' perspective

Omaha, the city with the best zoo in the world, so they said. They were right. We planned about 3 hours to walk the entire zoo and ended up taking more than 5. The exhibits were awesome and I loved the fact that peacocks roamed the sidewalks right next to you. They were doing some construction for a Saraha-type enviroment so some of the animals were not there, but it seemed that most of them had lots of room to move around. The first place we went was the Wild Kingdom Pavillion. This took the longest out of all the buildings but was unlike anything i've seen before. There were sections blocked off for monkeys, random hippos, and fish. The birds however were pretty much allowed to be free. We actually watched as two birds were building a nest less than 10 feet from us. There were two paths through the building, upper and lower. The upper view was definitely the best. The lower path got you closer to the animals. We then walked around outside to see bigger animals, the usual ones you see in every zoo. They did not have any elephants at the time but it looked like they were going to be in the new area. The rest of the park was pretty much inside buildings. There was a building for birds, cats, bears, and a nice area for apes and monkeys. The Expedition Madagascar got Caywood really excited because they had so many lemurs. Lot of pictures were taken. They had at least three silverback gorillas, which I thought was a lot, but they had such a huge area to inhabit. The cats didn't all have as much room as I thought deserved, but I think they were going to the new area too. We did get to see two monkeys hanging from the wire ceilling in their outdoor cage sing their mating calls. Weirdest thing I've ever seen, their throats expanded like a frog and the loudest horn-type sound came viberating out. We finished the zoo at the Desert Dome, which was good. We got to see some furry racoon-looking things eat. At the end of the desert is an exit or you can go downstairs to Kingdoms of the Night. By far the best exhibit I have ever seen in a zoo. It was like you were actually in that environment and the animals were right at home.

Overall, I understand why this is the best zoo in the world. Really glad Caywood put it on our list.
