Page - Caywood's perspective

Page: a city of beauty. We did quite a few things in Page, much of which was centered around Lake Powell. When we first arrived, we found an awesome camping spot where you could actually pitch a tent right on the beach. We pitched our tent, cooked a delicious dinner, and enjoyed the sunset with our toes in the sand of Lone Rock Beach on Lake Powell. This was a very quaint little beach, with one huge rock in the middle of the water. Kids were swimming, men were fishing, there were fire pits everywhere. I loved this night… minus the wind. It was SO windy, and I could hear the wind all night through our tent, so I only got about an hour of sleep.

When we entered the park earlier that night, the park ranger warned us that beyond the parking lot was allowed for all cars, but it was at our own risk. Naturally, Feliks made a comment that he never gets stuck… Jinx! As we were leaving the next morning we got stuck in the sand. What an adventure! But we made some great laughs about it, and luckily were surrounded by some very kind strangers who towed us out. Our first stop after leaving the beach was Horseshoe Bend. I was not impressed with Horseshoe Bend - glad it was free admission. The mile long hike to Horseshoe Bend was nice, even though I fell and hurt myself. *Typical. We didn’t go at the best time, because the sun cast shade over half of the scenic viewpoint. But even if the sun was at a better angle, I don’t think this stop is worth going out of the way.

My favorite part of Page ended up being Antelope Canyon. This is actually my favorite outdoor place we’ve been so far. I was a bit hesitant at first due to the price, but I could tell how excited Feliks was about it so we still went. SO GLAD we did! With Antelope Canyon, you have two options: Upper Canyon or Lower Canyon. The Upper Canyon charges you $8 person entry fee, plus charges for the tour on top of that. The tour will set you back between $25 and $40 - not sure what depending on. The Lower Canyon (the one we chose to do) has no entry fee and the tour fee per person is $28. The ranger we spoke to recommends the Lower Canyon between 10am and 1pm, and the Upper Canyon before or after that. The sun has a lot to do with it.

The Lower Canyon of Antelope Canyon seriously left me speechless. It has been featured on the cover of a National Geographic before, and for good reason. Our 90 minute tour through the bottom of this canyon was absolutely breathtaking. Be sure to check out the pictures below - they are some of my favorite from our trip thus far. This is a MUST if you plan to go to Page. Going to Page would be worth it simply for this tour. I can guarantee we will be back in this city to also get to experience the Upper Canyon tour.

My advice from our experience:

1. DO ANTELOPE CANYON.

2. Be sure to take cash with you. They do not accept any other payment form for the tours. Also be sure to have a few ones because most of the tour guides are awesome and definitely deserve a tip. They will tell you some great photo spots throughout, and even take photos of each group of people. There were multiple times where our tour guide laid on the ground to get the perfect angle for us in his group.

3. Camp on Lone Rock Beach, and bring your fishing poles too.

Page - Feliks' perspective

One of the spots I was most excited about was Lake Powell. I’ve heard lots of things about this lake. We arrived Monday night, missing the majority of the Labor Day campers. There was so much to do and so much to see, but as always… not that much time. We decided to camp right on the lake, and got lucky when we found Lone Rock Beach. It was a third of the price of most of the other campsites, and while it did not have the normal amenities, we got to park in the sand on the beach. Pretty much right on the lake. It was one of the top spots for cooking dinner in the van that we’ve had so far. I do have to warn you that some of the sand is very soft, and it’s very easy to get stuck. Just hope that there’s a tourist with a rented suburban willing to help.

Our Tuesday began with a short drive to Horseshoe Bend for a small hike and some great picture opportunities. We got there early and the sun was not fully on the bend yet, so the shadow dulled our sight. Maybe it was because of when we were there, but I would say that pictures of Horseshoe Bend definitely look better than it did it real life. It is cool how the river is surrounded by a beige canyon, yet the outline of the river has as much green as a golf course. The contrast in colors with the sun hitting the few spots we could see was a magnificent display of a natural phenomenon.

The rest of the day we decided to spend at Antelope Canyon, which was another short drive away. You have two options: the Upper or Lower Canyon. The Upper Canyon was quite a bit more expensive and required a short Jeep ride to the entrance point. The Lower Canyon was almost half the price and was a short walk. Everybody that talked about it online recommended the Lower Canyon, and I do not regret agreeing with their opinions. As we descended down into the canyon, I started seeing all the pictures from Google Image that popped up when I did my initial search. There were so many great picture opportunities; I’m pretty sure everyone in our group burned out their camera batteries. The tour guide was very knowledgable and did a great job of helping us take pictures in the different light scenarios. He even had the perfect spots where he took individual pictures of everyone in the group. We got some great pictures so check them out below. I hate to be a broken record, but this really is a place that you must go.

Overall, Page was an awesome little town. I can definitely see why so many people come here for the holidays. The place was clean; the roads were mostly good, but bring your Dramamine because it does get twisty at certain times. Parking - not an issue.
